Revised: October 3rd, 2000

This page contains links to materials that have been used in physician Internet training classes. These classes have been held within facilities at Allina Health System, on behalf of the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians’ Foundation, the American Academy of Family Physicians and at a conference sponsored by the Midwest Medical Insurance Company.  It links to our current materials as well as some of the older material we have used.  You are welcome to browse through this and use what you wish in your own classes.

Making the Internet a Clinical Resource

A hands-on workshop entitled Making the Internet a Clinical Resource is offered which covers both web skills as well as e-mail skills.  A box-lunch session entitled Choosing the Right Tools, is a question and answer session intended to aid attendees in the selection of a personal computer and an Internet service provider.  Participants were also given a handout of selected web sites which highlights a few sites of interest for the beginner, a bibliography for further reading and a handout which lists things to consider when evaluating the validity of a medical website.

Using Electronic Mail in Your Practice

Hands-on workshops for both the novice and experienced user of electronic mail. Skills taught include managing e-mail, creating statinery, attaching documents and using encryption and digital signatures for security.  Participants were also given a handout of selected web sites which highlights a few useful web sites for both the beginner and advanced user.

The Internet and the World Wide Web: Implications for Healthcare

This article appeared in the Medical Journal of Allina in the summer of 1996.   It was updated in November of 1997 for a physician's Internet Class.  I expect it to be somewhat of a living document so I welcome your comments.
