Allina Health System is a not-for-profit, integrated health care organization that operates through two divisions: Allina Hospitals & Clinics, a network of 19 hospitals and 48 clinics and Medica providing health care coverage for more than one million people throughout Minnesota, and the bordering states.  The corporate headquarters of Allina is southwest of Minneapolis in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Making the Internet a Clinical Resource

A class entitled Making the Internet a Clinical Resource covers both web skills as well as e-mail skills.  A box-lunch session entitled Choosing the Right Tools, is a question and answer session intended to aid attendees in the selection of a personal computer and an Internet service provider.  Participants were also given a handout of selected web sites which highlights a few sites of interest for the beginner, a bibliography for further reading and a handout which lists things to consider when evaluating the validity of a medical website.

Using the Internet as a Patient Education Tool

Lecture-demonstration given at Allina’s Patient Educator Conference: Patient Teaching and the New Customer on Friday, November 3rd, 2000.  Focuses on patient education tools on the Internet available to providers and staff within Allina Health System.  Some of the tools will only be available from within Allina’s network and others are openly available on the Internet.  Instruction on formulating a web search and evaluating results for reliability are also discussed.

Using the Internet to Enhance Patient Care

Lecture-demonstration of how the author uses the Internet in his Family Medicine Practice.  Lecture originally given to the Midwest Medical Insurace Company (MMIC) 3nd Annual Group Practice Symposium on Friday, August 25th, 2000.  Modified here to include resources available only to those accessing the Internet from within Allina Health System’s network.
The Internet and the World Wide Web: Implications for Healthcare
This article appeared in the Medical Journal of Allina in the summer of 1996.   It was updated in November of 1997 for a physician's Internet Class.  I expect it to be somewhat of a living document so I welcome your comments.
